Did you make an audit of your closet and find a pair of old jeans that you no longer wear, or, for example, a torn knee? Take your time to throw them away, they can make a beautiful denim skirt.

New life of old jeans

Sewing a skirt from jeans is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. The flight of fantasies in this case has no boundaries. But first things first.

We take old jeans. We decide on the length, type of product. We measure the length of the product and add allowances for the seams to process the bottom of the product, 5 cm is enough. We unpick the inner stitches on both legs, the middle seam is unstitched to the zipper.

If you had flared jeans from the hip, then in the end you will get a wonderful flared skirt. If there was a narrowed model, then the skirt will also be narrowed.

And if you had skinny jeans, and you wanted a flared skirt, then you can make a simple pattern of the skirt of their jeans. To do this, draw a wedge on a piece of paper or newspaper, which will subsequently make our skirt flared.

Let's cut out this pattern and transfer it to the cut-off trouser legs. We cut out around the office, but do not forget to leave allowances for the seams, at least 1 cm each. Cut out the details and sew them back and forth into our skirt.

High-waisted jeans make a great skirt. Make it better in a classic style. Straight, tight-fitting. She will look very feminine with high heels.

Skirt bottom decoration

Then we think what we will do with the bottom of the skirt. You can leave it unprocessed, but rather make a fringe. How is fringe made? It's very simple. At the hem of the skirt, using a ripper or a thick needle, pull out the transverse threads.

Fringe designs vary. For a more interesting look, you can make zigzag cuts in one or two places using scissors, and make a fringe in these places too. This look will give the skirt the casualness that is now fashionable.

If you don't want fringe, then you can use the resulting product in the form of a yoke. And already sew on it a hem from another unnecessary skirt. By combining two outdated things, you get one new and suitable for your taste.

If you decide to leave the skirt as it turned out initially, then you should process the bottom, again using a sewing machine.

How to do it? If the fabric of jeans is not quite thick, then you can make a hem with a closed cut, that is, first fold it by 0.5 cm, then 1 cm and sew it on a typewriter along the entire length of the bottom. If the fabric is very dense, then you can first process the bottom with an overlock, and then bend it 1 cm. The overlock can be replaced with a zigzag stitch.

We figured out how to make a skirt out of jeans. Now you can think about how to decorate it.

Skirt decoration

For a more delicate design, lace is suitable. You can buy it in fabric stores, or maybe you have unnecessary lace lying around. Lace in the form of a ribbon can be sewn on the bottom of the skirt, or you can decorate the pockets of the skirt with lace stripes. It all depends on your preferences.

You can use clothing patches. They will create a trendy, bright piece. You can sew them in a chaotic manner.

If you want something more exclusive, then you can decorate the skirt with sequins with your own hands. Think over the design earlier, what you will portray with sparkles. It can be either just a pattern or some kind of image. You can also decorate your stripes with sequins, this will give them more organicity.

In general, you should not restrain yourself in the design, try to combine different decorations together, maybe it will look good.

If you have such talent as knitting, crocheting or knitting, then the hem of the skirt can be knitted. This is another interesting design decision for your product.

To find something new for yourself, you can look on the Internet for photos with examples of the skirt of their old jeans. And add to what he saw, something of his own.

As mentioned, you can fantasize here a lot. The more love you put into your work, the better the thing you get. Now you know how to sew a jeans skirt with your own hands. Good luck to you.

Denim is increasingly used for sewing children's clothing. Denim is notable for its practicality, not a tendency to fade, durability and visual appeal. It is pleasant to the body and can withstand multiple washes. That is why children's denim skirts are so popular with modern mothers who want to see their daughters fashionable and beautiful.

Needlewomen alter old jeans into sundresses and skirts for their little ones, however, you can find a suitable model for every day in numerous children's collections.

Clothes for girls always look bright, original and provocative. So, in the denim collections of many brands of children's clothing, there are fluffy skirts with flounces, models on a yoke and multilayer skirts of an asymmetrical cut. The effect of ripped and worn denim looks great on children's mischievous skirts, and for visiting school or meeting guests, it is better to choose a laconic A-line skirt made of plain denim.

Denim skirts for girls with lace decor look beautiful and gentle... Such models, on the one hand, are romantic and naive, and on the other, they are provocative and self-sufficient. For girls of preschool age, skirts with lace will become the basis for a festive look and outfit "on the way out", and teenage girls choose lace models to give their appearance femininity and charm.

Pleated knee-length skirts are extremely suitable for young fashionistas. Older girls can also afford such products with a good figure and slender legs. Children's skirts with decor in the form of appliqués, embroidery, flowers and bows made of satin ribbons look spectacular... These models look pretty, but they are not very suitable for the everyday wardrobe of naughty fashionistas. Flared skirts made of thick denim are considered practical. They do not hinder movement, retain their shape well and can withstand repeated washing.

A girl's wardrobe can be supplemented with a tulle skirt. A product of this kind looks very festive and is suitable for creating elegant ensembles. A tulle skirt that complements the denim base adds playfulness and lightness to the look. For preschool girls, models with suspenders are recommended, which are practical and comfortable to wear.

How to complement the image

Girls mostly wear short skirts. These are usually blue and light blue denim products. However, in everyday children's wardrobe, there may be patterns in black and dark gray. Fluffy tiered skirts go well with T-shirts, turtlenecks, tops with thin spaghetti straps. Blue denim skirts are in harmony with bright blouses, openwork jumpers and plaid shirts.

A straight or slightly flared denim skirt in combination with a plain blouse and a blazer to match the skirt will be able to turn a girl into a little lady.

Teenage girls prefer short, tight-fitting skirts. Such models harmonize well with things such as:

  • a plain denim shirt with a knot at the waist and rolled up sleeves;
  • blouse or top in pastel colors + denim jacket or blazer;
  • long sleeve or T-shirt with a bright inscription;
  • openwork knitted sweater or jumper with a textured pattern.

It is useful to complement a short skirt with bright tights or leggings. Ballet flats of calm colors or moccasins are suitable for such an ensemble. Fur vests, leather jackets or knitted cardigans will be able to diversify the autumn-winter look. The latter should not be worn with fluffy skirts. Elongated jackets and cardigans are suitable for straight or fitted skirts.

Shoes and accessories

There should be no frills in a child's image. Children's clothes are very expressive and colorful. The image of a little lady will be able to complement such elements as a scarf or textile scarf, a contrasting belt, etc. A short denim skirt can be worn with sneakers and a compact backpack.

A skirt with lace should be complemented with varnished ballet flats or shoes with a strap. Metal or plastic bracelets or fashion watches with a bright strap are suitable as accessories. As for bags, small models of a rectangular or rounded shape over the shoulder are best for girls.

The autumn-winter look will be complemented by dense knitted tights with a smooth or textured surface. or boots with a wide shaft are in harmony with denim skirts of any style. If trimming in the form of leather, variegated fabric or lace is used when sewing a skirt, then such elements can appear in accessories and companion clothes.

Knitted leggings, colorful knee-highs or colorful wristbands will be able to complement the image of a young fashionista. What accessories should be preferred depends on the chosen style of clothing. Denim skirts are so practical that they can be combined with almost any wardrobe element.

Probably, every hostess is faced with a situation when things accumulate in the wardrobe that seem to be partially worn out, but it seems like it's a pity to throw it away. These, for example, include everyone's favorite jeans. Seats worn along the seam can no longer be worn. However, their whole trousers still inspire hope to alter something of them. And this is a very correct idea. Some good old jeans can easily and simply turn out, for example, one women's skirt (see) or two new cute skirts for a girl of 1.5 years old.

All that is needed for this is to wash, open and iron the jeans, and also prepare a skirt pattern. You can build it yourself, according to the standards of the child, or cut it out according to the old skirt, or you can simply print it by downloading it from the Internet.

Denim skirt cut details:

Jeans-stretch

  • Skirt front, 2 pieces;
  • Back of the skirt, 2 pieces;
  • Front skirt trim, 2 pieces;
  • Belt, 1 piece (you can use a belt from jeans).
Cotton fabric with small flowers:
  • Front skirt panel, 2-piece.

In the event that the cotton is much thinner than the jeans used, it will need to be duplicated with a thin glue pad and put on a cotton lining. This will give it the necessary rigidity.

It will also be necessary to duplicate the details of the facing of the front panel of the skirt. Dense, they will give the knots of the product a beautiful shape, prevent deformation during its operation.

If the skirt pattern has already been successfully tested in practice and has no comments on fit or processing, you can give the minimum required seam allowances to it when cutting:

  • for stitching seams, attaching a belt - 10 mm;
  • for turning - 7 mm;
  • for bottom processing - 25-30 mm.

The details of the insert of the front panel of the skirt should be duplicated with non-woven or proclamiline. Then you need to iron the hem allowance by 17 mm.

For the main details of the cut, it is necessary to cut out a lining of thin cotton with an allowance for processing the bottom of 7 mm.

Then you need to grind the inserts with a lining. To do this, the parts should be folded facing each other, equalized in all cuts and joined together with a machine stitch at a distance of 7 mm from the bottom cut.

After that, the parts must be turned out to the front side, the lining stitching seam must be ironed, and an auxiliary line (on a typewriter or manually) must be laid along the entire perimeter, connecting the top and the lining. This technique will greatly facilitate the further installation of the product.

Sew the halves of the front of the skirt along the middle cuts. The resulting seam must be processed on an overlock and ironed. Finishing stitches (double, in the so-called "denim style") must be laid on the front side of the front panel.

Use a thin glue pad to duplicate the skirt trims.

The prepared facing must be stitched to the front panel of the skirt with a 7 mm seam. In this case, the details must be placed face to face and equalized along the cutting cuts. For convenience, you can even pin them together with pins or sweep them with hand stitches.

On rounded sections, the allowances must be cut. This will make it easy to unscrew and iron the piping.

The piping must be turned off to the wrong side and ironed, straightening a small edging from the skirt part.

On the front side of the front panel of the skirt, finishing stitches must be laid along the turning seams.

After that, inserts of cotton fabric must be stitched to the hem of the skirt. Seam allowances must be overlocked. On the front side of the skirt, the trims must be additionally fixed by laying finishing lines along them at a distance of 25 mm from the trimmed edge.

Parts of the back panel of the skirt should be swept over, and then stitched along the middle cuts, leaving a small cut at the top for stitching the zipper tape. The middle seam must be ironed out.

Then you need to sew in a zipper tape. It can be whipped out of the same jeans that the skirt is sewn from.

Sew the front and back of the skirt along the side cuts. The seams must be swept and pressed onto the back.

The hem of the bottom of the skirt should be overcast and ironed 20 mm to the wrong side.

Then double finishing stitches must be laid along the bottom of the skirt.

It should be noted that the model's cotton inserts are 10 mm shorter than the denim details. This creates a layering effect in the skirt.

A belt must be stitched along the upper cut of the skirt. To do this, it must be placed with its face on the front side of the skirt, equalized along the cuts and fixed with a 10 mm wide stitch.

Excessively long ends of the belt should be cut off, leaving only 10 mm for turning from the left edge, and 60 mm from the right edge, for processing the ponytail under a button.

For the convenience of subsequent processing, the ends of the belt must be turned or swept up, tucking inward.

Then you need to pin the flying edge of the belt on the seamy side of the skirt with pins. After that, a finishing line should be laid on all sides of the belt. Bringing threads and pins must be removed, and the belt must be ironed from the inside out.

In conclusion, you need to overcast a loop on the left corner of the belt, and also sew a button on its right corner.

How to sew a children's skirt with your own hands

Without a doubt, every girl is a fashionista. In addition, there are situations when a child needs to perform at a matinee, a concert or go to a dance competition. In order not to run to the store for a new skirt, every mother is quite capable of sewing a thing with her own hands. The main thing is to choose a model of a children's skirt, build a pattern, transfer it to the fabric, then process the seams and decorate the product.

How to cut a children's skirt

Each pattern will differ depending on the features of the skirt model. But the process of building a pattern itself consists of several steps.

  • First, you need to take measurements. To build a pattern, only three measurements are required: waist, hips and length of the future product. The waist is measured at its narrowest part, and the hips at the widest. The data is recorded at half value with the addition of 1-2 cm for allowances. The length of the skirt depends on the wishes of the child.
  • Secondly, you need to prepare a sheet of Whatman paper and build a pattern on it according to the data.
  • Thirdly, the finished pattern should be laid on the fabric and the elements of the skirt should be cut out.

How to sew a children's fluffy skirt

By right, one of the simplest styles of a skirt is the "Tatyanka" style. The model of such a skirt turns out to be lush. You don't even need a pattern to complete it. So, what stages does the process of sewing a children's fluffy skirt consist of?

  • The first step is to decide on the type of canvas and cut a piece of fabric of the required parameters. A piece of cloth should be prepared, taking into account the allowances for the elastic and the processing of the bottom seam. For example, if a skirt is made for a girl with a height of 116 cm, and the estimated length of the product is 34 cm, then taking into account allowances of about 5-7 cm, the length of the cut should be 40 cm.The width of the cut is equal to the value of the hip circumference multiplied by 2.5 ... Due to this, the effect of splendor is achieved.

  • At the second stage, fold the fabric in half along the side seam with the front part inward and sew a seam 1 cm wide.
  • At the third stage, the upper and lower sections of the skirt must be sewn into the hem.
  • At the final stage, the finished product should be ironed.

  • A horizontal line should be drawn on a sheet of Whatman paper, its length should be equal to half the value of the hip girth plus 2-3 cm for allowances.
  • Next, in the middle, a horizontal line should be drawn perpendicularly, the length of which is equal to the length of the skirt.
  • After that, you need to draw two lateral lines with a slight extension downward.
  • Next, the pattern must be cut in half along the center line and transferred to the denim.
  • The cut halves of the skirt should be sewn together. Then it is necessary to cut out a belt from the fabric, insert an elastic band and process the lower cut.

How to sew a baby skirt from an old skirt

It is quite possible that in every wardrobe there are old things that are out of fashion. So why not take advantage of this and alter them in such a way that you get beautiful new things.

For example, in my mother's wardrobe was an old long skirt made of denim.

  • In order to transform it into a children's skirt, you need to take measurements and outline the length so that you can cut off an unnecessary piece of fabric.
  • Cut off any extra fabric along the side seam and then stitch them.
  • A line should be sewn along the lower edge of the product.
  • To decorate such a children's skirt, you can attach an applique or, from the remnants of the fabric of the same old skirt, cut out pockets and sew them on.

How to sew a children's skirt with an elastic band

The model of a children's skirt with a wide elastic band is practical, since it fits snugly, does not move and it is convenient for a child to play or walk in it. To sew such a skirt, you need to purchase fabric, it can be any, but a wide elastic band looks better on knitted skirts.

  • First you need to cut out the main parts of the skirt and connect them.
  • Then you should sew the edges of the elastic.

How to decorate a baby skirt

As mentioned above, children's clothing should be not only practical, functional, but also bright. You can achieve this effect using different methods of decorating clothes. The easiest way to decorate a baby skirt is to glue it with a hot iron or sew on an applique. Embroidery and satin ribbons will look no less interesting on the skirt. A good solution to decorate a children's skirt is to fix large flowers on it. You can use buttons, snakes of a non-standard shape.

How to sew a flounced skirt for kids

In order to make an elegant skirt with flounces, you need more fabric, because you need to sew the base of the skirt and the flounces. The number of flounces depends on the length of the skirt. For example, with a skirt length of about 20-22 cm, you will need four flounces 7 cm wide.

  • At the first stage, you need to cut the base of the trapezoidal skirt and mark on it areas for the belt, for each flounce and for the bottom seam.
  • To get flounces, you need to cut strips out of the fabric, process their edges, and then start a line along the length of each strip, slightly smoothening the fabric.
  • Flounces must be fixed on the base of the skirt, starting from the bottom.
  • At the final stage, it remains to attach the belt and thread the elastic.

How to knit a children's pleated skirt

A skirt for a girl can not only be sewn, but also knitted. For example, a model of a woolen children's pleated skirt will look cute. Based on the fact that the child is 3-4 years old, you will need about 200 g of wool.

  • The first row should be knitted as follows: first one edge loop, then seven front and one purl, then repeat the rapport and, finally, make one edge loop.
  • In the second row, one edge loop is knitted, four front and one purl, seven front, one purl, repeat and three front loops are repeated.

Further rows are knitted alternately: the first and second rows.

Step-by-step master class on how to sew a denim mini skirt for a girl with your own hands

You can also use the purchased fabric for sewing a children's skirt, but why spend money on it if you have old jeans. Moreover, ready-made jeans already have color stains and scuffs, which will give the skirt a special charm.

Construction of a skirt pattern for a girl.

Although, of course, this is said loudly, because the whole pattern is a pair of lines. The skirt is very easy to sew due to the fact that it has no fasteners. It will be a regular trapeze with elastic at the waist.

My daughter is 2.5 years old and does not have a pronounced waist, so it will be enough to measure her hips. Some babies have a larger tummy, so they need to be calculated based on the larger measurement.

We draw a horizontal line equal to half the hip circumference + 2-3cm for a free fit. We draw a perpendicular line down, equal to the length of the skirt. We draw the side lines with a slight extension to the bottom (I have 2 cm on each side.

The pattern of a denim skirt for a little girl is ready.

Next, cut it in half along the center line and transfer it to the fabric. I am using old faded jeans for sewing, so it is important to symmetrically arrange the details of the skirt. In this picture, I showed an example of the placement of parts.

The halves of the skirt are shown in red, there are 4 of them in total. The figure shows only two, maybe 2 more are cut from the back of the legs.

Future pockets are highlighted in blue; 4 pieces of such parts are also needed.

Skirt belt 2 details are drawn in green.

And so we transferred all the details to the fabric and cut it out, leaving seam allowances. Next, we sew the two halves of the front of the skirt and get a trapezoid. We do the same with the back of the skirt.

Let's start sewing pockets on the skirt.

From a thin fabric (I have coarse calico) we cut 2 squares in the shape of the front pockets. This fabric will not be visible as it is hidden inside the pocket itself. We put the fabric on the front of the skirt, fasten it with pins and draw a line of pockets. Draw the line as you like. The main thing is that the pockets are symmetrical with each other. Next, we sew with a typewriter along the marked line.

After that, you can cut off the excess part. Fold the fabric of the pocket to the inside of the skirt. Iron it well and sew along the edge. We carry out this procedure with both pockets.

After that we sew on the inside of the pocket. To do this, cut out a rectangle equal in size to the pocket from the jeans. We sew it to the blue fabric that was sewn to the skirt. I forgot to take a photo of this stage, so I can only show it schematically. The sewing lines are marked in yellow. In order not to distort the pocket at the next stages of sewing, we fasten it with a couple of stitches to the main part of the skirt (shown in green).

Sew patch pockets on the back to the skirt. Pockets can be of any shape, such as triangular or square. I decided to make pentahedrons. To do this, cut out the desired shape from the fabric, bend and sew the upper part. Then we fold and iron the rest of the sides. We fasten the pockets with pins on the skirt and sew.

We connect the front and back of the skirt by sewing them on a typewriter along the side seam.

Cut out a belt equal in length to the size of the skirt at the waist.

We attach the belt with pins to the skirt, with the front sides inward and sew.

It should look like this

We bend the belt to the inside, leaving room for the elastic and stitch it.

Don't forget to leave 1 cm for the elastic.

Our denim skirt for a girl is ready. It remains only to insert an elastic band and decorate with a thermal applique.

This skirt goes well with any clothes, and thanks to denim it is very practical and not easily soiled.
