Closing the mitten. Knitting mittens on five knitting needles, step-by-step description for beginners with video. Pattern “Two-color large cells”

Strictly speaking, there is no special wisdom in knitting mittens. If you know how to hold knitting needles in your hands and know what a knit, purl and chain stitch is, then you are quite capable of knitting mittens. Knitting mittens is the most suitable experience for beginning needlewomen. And if you are already a fairly experienced craftswoman, you will be able to knit not just warm mittens, but a completely fashionable and exclusive winter accessory.

You can crochet mittens. Can be done on two knitting needles: cross knitting, from two halves or with one seam. Or you can knit in the round on five knitting needles. Knitting mittens on five knitting needles is called granny knitting. This method has long been used to knit mittens, gloves, socks, and footwear. Let's take a closer look at this particular method. How to knit mittens on five knitting needles?

Features of circular knitting mittens

Circular knitting on five knitting needles is also called tubular knitting. The mitten is knitted in the round and has no seams. All loops for the future mitten are evenly placed on four knitting needles. The fifth knitting needle remains free from loops. She takes turns replacing all the other knitting needles.

In circular knitting there are no edge loops, and all knit stitches must be knitted through the upper segments (the thread is behind the work). Knitting is carried out only on the front side of the product. Loops knitted on four needles are considered one row. For convenience, the knitting needles need to be numbered (mentally). The upper part of the mitten is knitted on the first and second knitting needles, and the palm is knitted on the third and fourth knitting needles.

When knitting patterns on five knitting needles, the following rules are observed:

  • To preserve the pattern in circular knitting, the purl rows (according to the pattern) are knitted “in reverse.” That is, the front loops are purl, and the purl loops are front loops.
  • In patterns where even rows are knitted “as the stitches look”, only the odd rows are used, repeating each odd row twice.
  • If the pattern shifts on both sides of the knitting (as in rice knitting), all odd rows are knitted according to the two-needle pattern.

Where to begin?

First, choose your yarn. Mittens can be knitted from wool, mohair, or down yarn (at your discretion). You can make them plain, multi-colored or melange. Decide when starting to knit mittens: are patterns or a relief pattern more suitable for your mittens? They can be with a jacquard pattern or with an ornament, striped or openwork, with braids, cones or fringe. The cuffs on mittens are usually knitted with an elastic band. For one mitten you will need from 40 to 150 g of yarn depending on the size and pattern.

Knitting should begin by calculating the number of loops. Knit a sample (approximately 14 stitches wide and ten rows high), stretch it slightly and measure the tightness of the knitting. It is better to knit a sample for both the elastic band and the main pattern.

Measure the circumference of your wrist, the width and height of your palm. And after that, cast on the number of loops you need (necessarily a multiple of four!) and proceed to the process itself. Knitting a mitten begins with a cuff (it is knitted with an elastic band 1 by 1 or 2 by 2).

We knit a mitten from the cuff to the thumb

Divide the loops cast on two knitting needles into four equal parts. Knit each part on a separate needle. After knitting all the loops, close the circle. To do this, tie the end of the thread from the set of loops with the thread from the ball. You will end up with a square of four knitting needles with the first row knitted. The knitting needle from which you remove the loops during the knitting process becomes working (free). Continue knitting in the round (in one direction), alternating needles.

Once you have knitted the cuff (about 7 cm), move on to the main part of the mitten. Knit the distance from the cuff to the beginning of the thumb with the main pattern. If the pattern makes the main fabric narrower than the cuff (look at the sample), then add one loop on each knitting needle (two from one loop).

Having tied the mitten to the base of the thumb, leave a hole for it. For the right hand - on the third needle, for the left - on the fourth.

We knit the holes for the thumb

How to make thumb holes on a mitten? There are two ways to do this. In the first case, the hole remains open (this makes it more convenient to try on the mitten), in the second - closed.

First way. On the knitting needle where there will be room for the finger, knit the first loop. Slip off all other stitches except the last one with a safety pin. After this, on the working (right) knitting needle, cast on the same number of air loops as on the pin. Knit the last stitch.

Second way. Knit the first loop with the yarn from the ball. Next, tie all the loops with facial loops using another thread (preferably different in color). Put them back on the third needle and knit again with the main thread. As a result, you will get a solid canvas with a colored touch.

Knitting the toe of a mitten

In its upper part the mitten becomes cone-shaped. In order for the mitten to sit smoothly and beautifully on your hand, you need to knit the toe. To do this, at the end of knitting you need to decrease the loops. Depending on the method of decreasing the loops, the top of the mitten may turn out to be rounded or pointed.

A rounded decrease is only suitable for stockinette mittens as it disrupts the pattern. But you can also knit a mitten in a pattern, and before decreasing the stitches, switch to stocking knitting.

To decrease loops in a spiral on each knitting needle, knit the first two loops together using the lower segments. Decrease stitches in each row until only two stitches remain on the needles (eight in total). After this, tear off the thread of the ball and thread it into the needle. Use a needle to pick up all eight loops, pull and fasten from the inside of the mitten.

For a rounded decrease, do the same thing, only not with the first loops, but with the middle ones.

To get a beautiful pointed toe, decrease stitches as follows. Knit the first two stitches of each needle together. On the first and third knitting needles, the loops are tilted to the left (loops behind the back wall), on the second and fourth needles, with the loops tilted to the right (behind the front wall).

After the toe is knitted, the mitten is almost ready. All that remains is to knit the thumb.

Knitting the thumb

The thumb of the mitten is knitted on three needles, so the number of stitches for it should be divided by three.

If you removed the thumb loops with a pin, then you need to knit it in the following way. Remove the loops from the pin onto a knitting needle, and cast on new loops from the top row. Add two loops from the side broaches. Work in the round to your thumbnail. Then start decreasing the stitches in a rounded manner or in a spiral. After only six loops remain on the knitting needles, gather them on a thread (as in the case of the toe) and fasten them on the wrong side.

In the second method, carefully pull out the colored thread. To prevent the loops from running away, lightly steam the mitten through the fabric. Gather all open loops onto knitting needles. If the hole is too wide, decrease one stitch on each needle. If it is narrow, add two loops from the side broaches. Then knit exactly the same as in the first case.

If knitting mittens on five knitting needles seems difficult to you, then you can knit them with two knitting needles. For example, mittens made of two halves.

Knitting mittens on two knitting needles

For such mittens, the upper and lower ones are knitted separately, which are then sewn or crocheted. Starting to knit the back side of the mitten, cast on the knitting needles the number of stitches across the width of your palm with a small margin. Knit with the chosen pattern (or without pattern) to the end of the little finger. Then start decreasing stitches on both sides, knitting two stitches together. This will give you a mitten with a triangular toe. For a rounded toe, gradually decrease the stitches, leaving only a third of their original number open. Slip off the remaining stitches with a safety pin. The first half is ready.

Start knitting the bottom half of the mitten (palm). It is somewhat more difficult to knit - here the thumb is knitted.

Start knitting the palm in the same way as the upper half of the mitten. After knitting to the beginning of the thumb, divide the loops into four parts. Remove three parts of the loops onto a pin, put the rest on a knitting needle so that the thread from the ball is on the sharp side of the knitting needle. On the second knitting needle, cast on the same number of new (chain) loops with an auxiliary thread (preferably a different color). After this, knit new loops with the thread from the ball (it is on the first knitting needle). Continuing knitting you will get a rectangular protrusion. This is the unfolded thumb of the mitten. Having knitted it to the desired length, gather the open loops with a pin (or other thread), and tear off the thread from the ball.

After this, carefully remove the auxiliary thread from the knitting, which was left at the base of the thumb. Place the opened stitches and stitches removed before knitting the thumb onto a knitting needle. Continue knitting the palm with the thread from the ball, as well as the upper half of the mitten.

Having completed knitting, sew the thumb fabric with a knitted seam, and pull the upper open loops with thread and fasten from the wrong side. Then sew both halves of the mitten together. That's all.

So, without hesitation, choose the yarn, pattern and model of your future mittens. Take the knitting needles in your hands and comprehend the wisdom of the mitten in practice.

Everyone needs mittens in winter! To knit mittens on knitting needles, cast on: for children up to 32 loops, for women 36-40 loops, for men 48 loops. We will knit on 5 needles.

We select the yarn and knitting needles ourselves. I like to knit women's ones from goat down on the thinnest knitting needles. They turn out thin and fit tightly to the hand. One skein of yarn is enough for any size. It is better to knit mittens on thin knitting needles to keep them warmer. We knit the mittens in the top photo using needles No. 2 from NAKO Tweed yarn.

Description of knitting women's mittens. If you need a children's size, knit it the same way, leaving 5 loops per finger, if a man's size - 8-10. The main thing is to understand the principle of knitting, and you can adjust the number of loops!

We cast on 41 loops, distribute them onto 4 knitting needles, and close them into a circle. . There are 40 loops left, 10 on each knitting needle. We knit 2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches with an elastic band (you can knit 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch with an elastic band) to the required length.

In the next row we begin to knit a finger. To do this, remove 6 loops on a pin in the place where the thumb is planned. I take the middle loops on the second or third needle. And instead of them, in the same row I cast on 6 loops on a knitting needle. We continue to knit in stockinette stitch to the desired length. If I knit mittens for myself, I put them on my hand and knit until my little finger is hidden.

We begin to decrease the loops in each row. This can be done in different ways. Or we decrease the loops evenly in 4 places, then the mitten can be worn either on the right hand or on the left. On each knitting needle, first knit 2 stitches together behind the front wall. (So connected in the top photo). Or knit the last 2 stitches together behind the back wall. This is how I launch men's and children's mittens.

Or we decrease it on both sides, then when knitting we determine exactly where the right is and where the left is. On the first knitting needle we knit 2 penultimate loops together behind the back wall, the last knit stitch, on the second knitting needle 1 knit, 2 together behind the front, on the third knitting needle 2 penultimate loops together, the last knit, on the fourth knitting needle 1 knit, 2 together behind the front wall.

We knit this way until there are 4 loops left. We knit two together, pull the last loop through the penultimate one, tighten. We cut the thread and pull it to the left side. We fix it.

gray down mittens after several washes, they started up on both sides, black ones started up evenly
We knit a finger. Description.

We remove the loops from the pin on one knitting needle. Next we will pick up loops along the edge of the hole. You should get 14-16 loops. If you have more, in the next row we knit the extra 2 together. I also measure the length of the finger by hand: I put on a mitten and knit until the finger is hidden. Then we decrease 2 at a time until one loop remains. Tighten and break the thread. We hide it on the left side and secure it.

Did you see that the gray mittens are without elastic? Just stockinette stitch and when I picked up the stitches, I made a thickened edge. I also liked the mittens, which do not have an elastic band on top, but 2 rows with purl stitches, 4 rows with knit stitches. 3 such purl “waves”.

Another way to knit a finger.

Look how good the mittens with a thickened edge look, knitted from “Winter Comfort” yarn (70% goat down, 30% acrylic, 100 g = 220 m) in green! I was amazed: the yarn did not fade, and after washing the mittens were no longer worn! The length of the cuffs of the mittens can be slightly adjusted: twist the edge (on the left in the photo) or straighten it, as on the right.

In order for the mitten to fit exactly on your hand, we will cast on 6 fewer loops on the knitting needles, because We will add these 6 loops when knitting the finger. Knit the required cuff length. In the diagram these are conditionally rows 1,2,3. (They need to be connected not 3, but 10-30 at your discretion.)

Left mitten. Description

On the first knitting needle we knit 3 knits. loops, yarn over, the remaining loops are knit. The next row is without additions. Do this 5 more times.

Now we remove 6 loops, which are after the increase track, onto a pin. Immediately make 6 yarn overs on the right loop. Now we knit a smooth fabric to the end of the little finger. We will make decreases according to the diagram (there it is indicated as row 20).

We knit the finger, adding 10 loops along the edge of the hole. We knit it exactly to the end of the finger (measure on the hand). Now we knit all the loops 2 together until 1 loop remains. We cut the thread, tighten it well and hide the tail on the left side of the mitten.

Right mitten

On the last knitting needle, without knitting 3 loops, we make a yarn over. And we knit everything the same way, only in a mirror image, i.e. We number the loops in the diagram not from right to left, but from left to right.

How to decorate mittens or see how to knit a finger with an “Indian wedge” is described in

I hope I wrote it clearly! If you have any questions, write a comment and I will answer!

How to knit mittens with a pattern.

We knit mittens with knitting needles in the round. We start with the cuff. We cast on the number of loops, a multiple of 4, + 1 loop. We knit an elastic band * 2 knits, 2 purl* of the required length. Approximately 5-8 cm.

Then we determine where the palm will be on the mitten and where the back side will be. On the back side we will knit a pattern according to the pattern.

How to knit 3 knits out of 3 knits?

Insert the right needle into 3 knit stitches as if we were going to knit them together. We pull out 1 loop, (do not lower the loops from the left knitting needle!), Yarn over and pull out another knit stitch from the same place. Now we lower the loops from the left knitting needle. The description is not simple, but in fact it is easy to knit.

We knit the finger in any way. The palm is knitted in stockinette stitch. On the picture

Mittens with Indian wedge for thumb

You cast on, say, 44 loops, knit the cuff with an elastic band, or in another way.

After the cuff, you need to knit several rows of even fabric, let it be 5 rows. To do this, on the side of your palm you knit in stockinette stitch, and on the back of your hand you will knit the pattern you like.

All stitches are distributed equally on 4 knitting needles.

Now I will only talk about the palm.

We knit the right mitten.

22 palm loops.
We begin to form a wedge.
16 knit (I’ll explain why 16: the whole finger is 20, but after forming a wedge, you will pick up 4 loops along the edge of the body of the mitten for your finger), knit the next loop (17) behind the front and back walls (two loops are formed instead of 1), the remaining loops facial.

We knit the next and subsequent rows in the same way as the first: knit 16, 17 for the front and back walls, the rest knit. So you increase until you have 16 “extra” loops. after that, separate the right 16 loops onto a thread or pins, as is more convenient for you, connect them under the finger with the back side and knit the mitten to the end, as usual.

Finger.
Where the palm and the back are connected, cast on 4 loops from the edge, slip the finger loops onto the knitting needles and knit the finger as usual.

Left glove.

Palm.
Knit 5, knit the next one behind the front and back walls (I turn this loop to face me, then the left and right mittens will look the same in the wedge area), knit 16.

Second row. K6, next to the front and back wall, k16.

If you need to widen your palm, then in the area “under the finger”, you will make the wedge 2-3 loops wider, but then for the finger you will cast on 2-3 more loops along the edge. But then gradually shorten these loops. My husband has a wide palm, so I add loops. Then I turn it down.

There are a lot of ways to knit mittens, I will show you how to knit the simplest mittens on 5 knitting needles. Having mastered knitting these simple mittens, you will be able to knit whatever mittens you want for yourself or your loved ones. You can decorate the mittens with any pattern using a regular buttonhole stitch, as I did. I embroidered a simple fantasy design with contrasting thread. Mittens can be ornamented, striped, with braids, cones or openwork, it all depends on your imagination.

Calculation of loops for knitting mittens.

I will knit baby mittens for my daughter. The calculation of the loops for the mitten is done at the widest point of the palm. It is necessary to outline the hand; knitting will be carried out according to this drawing. We knit a sample of the mitten pattern, apply it to the drawing without stretching, this way we will find out how many loops are needed for one half of the mitten. We multiply this number of loops by two, you can add another 2-4 loops for completeness. According to my sample, I got 9 loops across the width of the mitten, I will add 2 loops for fullness, in total I need to cast on 20 loops. It is important that the total number of loops is divided by four. If the upper and lower parts of the mitten are knitted in different patterns, then you need to knit two samples and calculate the loops for both samples (the number of loops required for different patterns may vary, for example, it turned out in “”)

Let's start knitting a mitten.

We begin to knit a mitten with an elastic band; to do this, we need to cast on the total number of stitches on the knitting needles, distribute the stitches across 4 knitting needles and knit in the round. In knitting in the round there are no edge loops; knitting is carried out only on the front side in one direction. The fifth knitting needle remains free, we knit with it, replacing all the other knitting needles in turn. We knit an elastic band 1×1 or 2×2 to the required height, then go to the main pattern and knit until the cut of the thumb.

Calculation of loops for knitting the thumb of a mitten.

For the right mitten: 1/3 loops go on the thumb + 1 loop on the bottom half of the mitten. I get 4 loops per thumb. To obtain a cut from the edge of the first knitting needle, knit 1-2 loops, remove the number of loops that we counted for the thumb onto a pin. The first knitting needle is the one that is located to the left of the tail of the thread from the beginning of knitting. Cast on the same number of air loops over the removed loops and continue knitting in the round until the mittens begin to descend over your fingers. For the left mitten: a cut for the thumb is made on the lower half, but on the opposite side. 1/3 of the loops + 1 loop is removed at the end of the second knitting needle, 1-2 loops not reaching the edge.

Lowering the loops of the mitten.

The descent of the mitten loops begins from the end of the little finger. When applying the mitten to the drawing, be sure to align the mark for the thumb and the upper set of loops of the thumb hole (as shown by the arrow in the figure). 1st knitting needle - knit 1 loop, slip 1 knit stitch, knit 1 loop, pass the slipped loop over the knitted one, knit the remaining loops according to the pattern. 2nd knitting needle - first knit according to the pattern, at the end of the knitting needle, knit the last three loops like this: 2 knit stitches together, 1 knit stitch. The 3rd needle is knitted in the same way as the 1st needle. The 4th needle is knitted in the same way as the second needle. Decrease loops through a row (circle). When there are 2 loops left on each knitting needle, you need to combine the loops of the 1st knitting needle with the loops of the 2nd knitting needle, and the loops of the 3rd knitting needle with the loops of the 4th knitting needle. Fold the knitting needles parallel to each other. Knit the remaining 8 stitches 2 stitches together. There will be 4 loops left that need to be tightened as follows. We cut the thread, leaving a tail, pull the thread through all 4 loops as we knit and tighten it into the ring.

Knitting a thumb mitten. Remove the loops from the pin onto a knitting needle and knit, cast on the same number of loops from the braid (you can add 1-2 loops on each side on the sides). It is convenient to crochet the loops. Transfer the loops to 4 knitting needles and knit to the middle of the nail, then lower the loops like a mitten.

If you are a beginner craftswoman, then create a simple version of the mittens. For subsequent work, you will be able to use patterns, various types of knitting, and create drawings.

The work begins with taking measurements. Look at the photo, it will help you navigate this issue. To knit mittens correctly, it is better to first draw a mitten pattern. Then, during the needlework process, you can apply your work to the template so that the mittens fit well on your hands.

Here's what data you'll need:
  1. Measure the volume of your palm at the widest point, where the finger bones are located. In this example, this figure is 19 cm (Let it be measurement A).
  2. Determine the distance from the wrist to the beginning of the thumb. Let's call this measure the letter B.
  3. The next number corresponds to the height from the wrist to the beginning of the little finger.
  4. You can get the penultimate measurement if you place the zero mark of a measuring tape on your wrist and look at the value near your index finger.
  5. Now determine the distance from your wrist to the extreme point of your middle finger. This will be the height of your product after the elastic band. This is where we start knitting mittens.

The cuffs of the mittens must be made of elastic, then the mittens will not slip. Sports models have more elastic than regular ones.

Knitting mittens step by step

The next stage is preparing the threads. If you want the mittens to be warm, then take natural wool ones. You can use mohair yarn or roving, then the mittens will be fluffy.

The thicker the yarn, the larger the size of the knitting needles used for needlework. Usually, for knitting mittens, you take 5 knitting needles: 4 main and one additional; they are sold in a set.

To ensure the mittens fit perfectly on your hand, first knit a sample. It is small, consisting of only 12 loops and 10 rows. Create it with the main knitting. Now measure the width of the resulting product, not taking into account the 2 outer loops. Determine how many loops you have in one centimeter.

Multiply this number by the girth of the widest part of the palm, that is, by the number that we denoted by the letter A. You will get a number equal to the number of loops that you will cast on when starting to knit mittens.

To do this, first use 2 knitting needles. Now, with the third, connect the last loop with the first loop in a circle. Having knitted a quarter of the row with an elastic pattern, knit the next quarter with a different knitting needle. When you create this second row, your work should end up on 4 needles.

The “elastic band” pattern, which is created from 2 front and 2 purl loops, will look beautiful on the wrist. You can use English and other types of rubber bands. Knit 5-6 cm with this pattern. If you are making mittens for a child, then 4-5 cm is enough.

Next, knit in the round with the main pattern. For beginners, it will be easiest to create the main fabric using only knit stitches. If you want, you can make a braid pattern in the center. It will go on the back of the palm.

Mark 8 loops at this place. Having finished knitting the elastic, going to the mark, knit 2 loops with purls, then 6 with knits, then again with 2 purls.

Having completed 5 rows in this way, also knit 2 purl rows. Slip 3 knit stitches onto a pin and fasten it. Knit the next three, then slip the stitches from the pin onto the left needle and knit them as well. Next, create a fabric according to the pattern, that is, knit the last 2 purl stitches, then knit them with knit stitches.

After 5 rows, repeat the manipulation by removing 3 knit stitches onto a pin or additional knitting needle. As a result of such twisting, every 5 rows you will get fragments of the “braid” pattern.

How to tie a finger, finish the job

Place the fabric on your hand or pre-drawn pattern, if it's time to knit your thumb, do it as follows.

Place the knitting on your left hand. To knit the thumb, knit 4 stitches on the fourth needle. Slip the next 8 stitches onto a pin and cast on 8 chain stitches instead. Next, continue creating the canvas according to the pattern until the top of the little finger.

If you want to knit the mittens with open fingers, then when you get to the beginning, you will just need to work 5 cm with the same elastic band that you created on the wrist. In this case, all that remains is to tie the thumb as described below, but up to half, ending it with an “elastic band” pattern.

If you want to create full-fledged mittens, then, having reached the top of the little finger, begin to decrease the loops on the right and left sides of the palm. To do everything correctly, apply the resulting fabric to the pattern or try the mitten on yourself.

When you reach the top of your middle finger, knit the remaining 2 stitches together, crochet the thread inside out, trim off the excess.

To knit the thumb, pick up stitches over stitches around the thumb hole. Distribute them onto 4 knitting needles and knit to the middle of the thumbnail. From here, begin decreasing evenly, knitting together the last stitch on the needle with the first stitch on the next needle. When 2 loops remain, knit them together by pulling the thread inside out and trimming off the excess.

Here's how to knit mittens with open and closed fingers. You can decorate the mittens with artificial pearls, as shown in the photo, but such products look great even without decoration.

How to knit socks with knitting needles: calculations, elastic band

To keep not only your hands, but also your feet warm in any frost, you can knit socks. Start with simple models, and on later ones try to make patterns or make drawings. You can simply alternate threads of different colors, it will also turn out beautifully, or for the boot, along with the brown one, use a white thread. Then it is easier to count the rows, the product will be more impressive. The video clearly demonstrates this.

Even if you have not yet done this type of needlework, step-by-step photographs, a detailed description, and a video at the end of the article will help you understand how to knit socks. For beginners and experienced craftswomen, it should be noted that you first need to create a sample.

Cast on 12 stitches on two needles, without tightening them tightly. Knit 10 rows to complete the pattern. It is better to lightly steam it with an iron. Now determine how many loops you have in one centimeter. The video will help you understand how to knit socks step by step. After watching the first one, you will learn how to create a pattern and count stitches.

Now you need to measure the circumference of your ankle closer to the heel. For example, it is 20 cm. In one centimeter you have 2 loops. Then you need to cast on 40 loops. After this, knit the first row with an elastic band, at the same time distributing the loops equally. In this example you have 10 stitches on each needle.

If, as a result of the calculations, you realize that the resulting number is not a multiple of four, then round it up so that it is divisible by 4.

Looking at the photos, it will also be easy to figure it out. The photo shows how to create a blank for the heel. Video No. 4 clearly demonstrates this.

How to knit the heel of a sock

Having completed the facial loops after the elastic band, proceed to the most important part of the work. And here's how to knit the heel of a sock. First of all, you need to throw the loops for it onto one knitting needle, in this example there are 20 of them. So, having created 10 loops on one knitting needle, then knit another 10 loops on the same knitting needle.

Now you need to create the tongue, which will soon become the heel. To do this, knit 20 rows of these 20 loops, turning your fabric over. That is, do knit stitches on the front row, and purl rows on the back row. Now divide the resulting canvas by 3. It’s okay if you can’t do it without a remainder.

In this example, the central tongue will consist of 8 loops, and the two adjacent fabrics will each have six. Your calculations may be different, but create the heel of the sock so that the number of stitches for the two side panels is the same.

Distribute the three heel pieces onto 3 needles (6+8+6 stitches). The remaining 20 loops will remain on one needle for now. Now you will knit only the central tongue, alternately picking up a loop from one or the other side fabric. That is, having knitted 6 knit stitches, knit 8 knit stitches, knit the last eighth loop of the central tongue together with the first side fabric, consisting of 6 loops, purl.

Turning your work over to the reverse side, purl the center tab by knitting together the last eighth stitch and the first stitch of the six side stitches.

End of work

You have learned how to knit the heel of a sock. There is very little left to do to finish the job. Cast on 6 and 6 loops in those side places where they turned out to be closed, and from the heel to the top of the little finger, knit in a circle using all the cast-on and remaining loops (there are 40 of them in total), after which you need to decrease them.

There are several ways to do this. If you want the sock to be neat and round, then use the following, and the video will clearly demonstrate this final stage of work.

Having knitted 8 stitches on one needle, purl the last two together. Proceed in the same way on the other three knitting needles. In the next row you will have 9 loops left on each needle. Knit seven, and purl the 8th and 9th together. Do the same on the other three knitting needles.

As you already understood, in the next row on each knitting needle you will also need to purl the last two stitches together. When you have 3 loops left on each knitting needle, cut the yarn, leaving a thread 10 cm long. You can pass it through the remaining loops using a crochet hook or do it with knitting needles.

Visually demonstrates how to knit socks step by step at this stage, final video. When removing loops, simply pass the remaining piece of thread through them.

When they are all closed, pull it. Make 1-2 neat knots on the front side and pull the thread with a hook inside out. Here's how to knit socks on 5 knitting needles, which even novice needlewomen can create.

Seamless mittens

A basic lesson on knitting mittens that even a beginner can handle. The peculiarity of this model is the absence of a characteristic seam. The product will require only 70 grams of wool, as well as five needles No. 3.

Before you begin the creative process, you need to determine the knitting density. The optimal indicator for this model is 1.7 loops in one centimeter.

Measure the circumference of your hand; the standard measurement for a woman’s hand is 20 centimeters. Work on 5 knitting needles, this is how the mittens will turn out seamless.

Step-by-step algorithm:

  • We cast on loops at the rate of 20 * 1.7 = 34 loops. All 34P are distributed over four knitting needles. For ease of calculations and multiplicity, dial 36 P, which are distributed in nine for each of the 4 knitting needles.
  • Conditionally number each knitting needle. Knit, closing the circle more tightly, 4p of the 1st knitting needle together with the end of the yarn that remained on the 4th knitting needle from the set of loops.
  • We start knitting with the right mitten. On the 1st and 2nd knitting needles we will count the loops of the lower part of the mitten, on the 3rd and 4th - on the right. Tie with an elastic pattern 1LP*1IP, the cuff height is approximately 7 cm.
  • Knit the warp, moving in a circle, row by row, to the base of the thumb. The distance is 5-7 cm depending on the size. The finger is knitted on the 1st needle for the right mitten, on the 2nd needle for the left.
  • Having reached the base, begin to decrease the loops at the toe of the mitten. On the 1st and 3rd knitting needles, the first 2P are knitted together with 1LP behind the rear walls with a 1P turn. On the 2nd and 4th needles we knit in a mirror manner, that is, behind the front walls. Decrease until half the number of stitches remains.
  • Tie the thumb hole. Insert two knitting needles so that the bottom one is 7P and the top 6P. Distribute them onto the knitting needles and knit in the round. Having reached the nail area, decrease the loops, as in the toe. When there are 1p left on the knitting needles, pull them together and fasten them from the wrong side.
  • When the right mitten is ready, we knit the left pair in the same way, but mirrored.

Long mittens with two knitting needles

A stylish model with an elongated cuff will not only warm you up, but will also become an original detail of the winter beauty’s image. These mittens are knitted on two knitting needles.

There are two ways: the first - two separate parts are knitted and then sewn together, the second - continuous knitting with one invisible seam.

We suggest knitting the mittens using the second method. The process is more labor-intensive, but the result will be visually more accurate. To work you will need a skein of yarn, knitting needles, a pin, a hook, a needle, and a tailor's yardstick. Instructions:

  • Start with the right piece. Take measurements and determine the knitting density in 1 centimeter. For a standard size it turns out 40P-4P=36P, plus 2 edge loops.
  • Tie the cuff with an elastic band according to the 2LP*2IP principle. There are approximately ten rows for a length of 15 cm.
  • For the main one, take knitting needles of a smaller diameter. Add 4p evenly, knit to the base of the thumb.

In addition to the original appearance, the advantage of these mittens is that they warm your hands perfectly.

Many beginners mistakenly leave room for their thumb on the side. In fact, the pipe is knitted closer to the palm, so your hands will be warmer and more comfortable.

  • We knit 2 loops from the edge, and then remove them with a pin. For the finger, take 6P, knit them, remove them with a pin. 6P of the thumb will remain on the working knitting needle. Knit in height, multiply the length of the finger by 2, then enter the loops from the pin into the work.
  • Tie to the little toe, move to the toe. To do this, you need to divide all the loops into 2, remove one part with a pin. We begin to shorten and knit according to the principle “edge, 1 loop, then 2 loops together.” Reduce until there are 6-8 stitches left on the needle.
  • We close the remaining loops and work the other side in the same way. When the toe is finished, carefully sew up the hole at the base of the mitten.

Knit the left mitten similarly to the right one, in a mirror image. The master class will certainly appeal to beginners, because knitting or crocheting mittens is a fascinating creative process.

To make it easier for needlewomen to implement a creative idea, there are many diagrams with detailed descriptions. We offer an interesting tutorial on how to create stylish mittens with a classic pigtail pattern.

To work you will need 70 g of soft yarn, you can take angora or acrylic, as well as stocking needles. Don't forget to take the necessary hand measurements!

Original knitted mittens

Work algorithm:

  • We start, as usual, with the right mitten. Knit a standard rib knit 2*p 2. Cast on 48 stitches, distribute equally onto each of the 4 needles and knit.
  • Let's move on to the braid pattern.

The basic principle of creating a three-dimensional braid ornament: 8 loops cross to the left. To do this, 4 loops remain on the auxiliary needle, and the other 4 loops. knitted with an auxiliary knitting needle.

  • From rows 1 to 6, knit according to the formula 1LP, 2IP, 8LP, 2IP, 8LP, 2IP, 1LP. Knit the loops on two knitting needles from the palm side.
  • We knit the seventh row like this: 1LP, 2IP, 8P cross to the left, then 2IP, 8P cross to the right, 2 IP, 1LP. Knit the stitches on two needles from the palm side, repeat rows 1 to 7.
  • Leave a hole for the thumb. To tie it, 2 persons. Slip 6 loops onto a pin, cast on 6 stitches, knit 4 stitches.
  • We form the toe. To do this, we decrease the loops by knitting two loops together on each knitting needle, rounding the mitten towards the base. Carefully sew up the small hole in the thumb and toe with the same yarn.

Knitting Bella's mittens from the movie Twilight

Warm patterned mittens can be knitted for a child. For babies, choose soft, warm yarn so that it does not “bite” and cause allergies.
