Nurse's Day: when celebrated. International Nurse Day Today is Nurse Day

May 12 International Nursing Day

"The nurse is not a servant, she is a certified and full-fledged specialist." (V.V. Samoilenko)

For the first time, the service of sisters of mercy was organized during the Crimean War

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 12. In other words, today it is necessary to congratulate and thank the representatives of one of the most humane professions.

The professional nursing holiday is celebrated on the birthday of one of the famous English women, Florence Nightingale, who organized the world's first nursing service during the Crimean War (1853-1856).

It is known that among the sisters of mercy who went to the front of the Crimean War, there were also Russian nuns from the Moscow Nikolskaya monastery. Subsequently, many Russian aristocratic women worked in hospitals, including the wife and daughter of Emperor Nicholas II.

It was during the war years that a stable stereotype was formed: a nurse is a nurse who takes out the wounded from the battlefield or stands at the operating table.

Although in fact the holiday is already more than one hundred and fifty years old, it was only in January 1974 that an official decision was made to celebrate this day on May 12. Nurse Day is celebrated since the unification of sisters of mercy from 141 countries in a professional public organization - the International Council of Nurses (International Council of Nurses).
Restraint and patience are the foundation of the medical profession, and medicine is based on these qualities. Today, the nursing profession is consistently among the top three most respected. Nursing is an independent science and an independent profession. But without exception, all medical professionals must have the knowledge and skills of patient care. A real nurse, in addition to professional skills, must have a rich, kind soul. After all, we all so lack in this life someone's sympathy, empathy. Indeed, sometimes it is not the pills distributed with a cold-blooded hand that are so important to patients, and not a thermometer under the armpit at the appointed time, but a warm look, a kind word, a sincere conversation.

In Russia, the holiday has been celebrated since 1993.

With a light hand will smooth out the pain from the injection,
At the first call, he will come to help.
Spend the whole night by the patient's bed
He will find time for everyone else.
We are grateful to you for your work,
Which is often not easy at all
Medical sisters love and care -
And our health is in good hands! ©

Nurses celebrate their holiday today.
You are the mainstay of medicine, everyone knows about it.
I want to wish all sisters medical
Let fewer cases come to the doctor.
May the sun smile for you more often,
Let flowers, friends, smiles delight your eyes.
May dreams come true, let the nightingales sing!
I sincerely wish you happiness and love! ©

May happiness, without knowing obstacles,
Brings you gifts today
And the birds sing, congratulating
Happy Nurse Day!
So let the compliments ring out
And wishes sound!
Today may all patients
Thank you with flowers! ©

Companion eternal to doctors,
It helps all people.
We are a nurse
Health improves.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts
For your heart and care!
And now we want to wish
May work bring joy. ©

You help all the wounded, sick,
That require care and attention.
One - injections, bandage - another.
You will support up to the parish doctors.
I'm international nurse day
I would like to congratulate all the assistants,
And wish that all dreams come true
And so that spirit and body are in harmony. ©

They will heal the bruise and remove the bruise,
After all, a simpleton cannot figure out medicines.
Should an injection be done, or is it time for a compress?
It is not for nothing that there is a position in medicine - a nurse.
We know that your work is important, and it is not at all simple.
And we raise a toast for you today!
We wish you success and congratulations to the helmet.
He who lives good will help a person. ©

Sisters, dear, dear, soldiers called you to war.
And someone saw them as a friend, and someone, perhaps, a wife
And on themselves, just girls, they pulled out those
Who was wounded on the battlefield, tanker, gunner or marine.

But today they have a holiday, a world holiday for nurses,
And let a huge chorus of voices merge in congratulations.
After all, drugs are not always important and I am “FOR” with both hands,
And just a sincere conversation and those kind eyes. ©

Sitting quietly on a gurney
Since this morning ...
You sit down - we do not mind!
Let the nurse rest -
Rarely does she do that
In the stormy flow of days ...
Let the patient turn
Not your buttock!
Let it appear for some reason
A lot of good luck:
There will be less work
The head doctor will become kinder
The ships themselves will cleanse,
Breaking through the floor with a gong;
Will suddenly become gray everyday
On a festive joyful day;
Bathrobes will become white
Suddenly elegant, variegated;
Salary will rise sharply ...
Will dream already! Enough!
Closer to reality it is necessary -
Happy Holidays! Happy Nurse Day! ©

Surround me with care
Pay attention to everyone.
Always watch out for the sick -
Support, cheer.
Lovely and kind infinitely,
You are the purest soul man!
Thanks for everything, nurse!
I wish you health, happiness forever! ©

Let's say thanks to her together,
For her hard work,
She can't make mistakes
You have to be here and there,
Whom to put a thermometer,
And who should be injected,
Do not leave without attention,
Or issue validol.
Everything in the world is in time
Our (name) is a nurse,
And in the world, let everyone know
Where she is, there is kindness. ©

Happy Nurse Day
I wish to keep a lot of patience
And always helping patients
Only give care and affection.
There are many important and difficult professions
You save people so easily.
You also help them spiritually
In this you are a master, almost a sorcerer.
Helping to save body and soul
You treat with care, your smile
And today I congratulate you
I will give a verse and a little rubles. ©

It's not a pity to stay without work!

To many in this life.
Help in any trouble -
An unbreakable principle.

And so that your work only brings joy.

Happy Nurse Day, you are ours.
Know that there is no sweeter and more beautiful you.

It is celebrated differently in different countries. In some countries of the world, it begins to be celebrated as early as May, for example, in the USA, where professional conferences and celebrations begin on May 6. In other countries, there is no strictly designated day for this celebration at all, however, it is mainly celebrated on May 12. For the first time the idea of \u200b\u200bthe holiday was announced in 1953, however, the first time a nurse's day was celebrated 12 years later. May 12 is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of the Mercy Service during the Crimean War. It was this woman who became the hero of the occasion.

A bit of history ...

Florence Nightingale was an English aristocrat who received a male-only education. The terrible events deeply touched Florence, and she decided to use her extraordinary abilities for good. Since the wounded soldiers needed constant care, the woman gathered a group of nurses who went to the field hospitals in Crimea. Although the surgeons were skeptical about this venture, the woman stopped at nothing.

Even before the war, Florence spoke of her desire to create her own nursing community, showing a great interest in caring for sick people. Nightingale wanted to change the stereotype of women nurses, who were usually either drunkards or girls of easy virtue.

During the war, the nurse increased the number of wards in hospitals so that the wounded were less crowded and more comfortable. She went around them even at night, every day. The nurses and nurses who worked with her also worked tirelessly. Grateful wounded soldiers always spoke very warmly of the woman who helped them survive. According to available data, the death rate during the war has decreased tenfold! In addition to the usual medical care, Nightingale organized laundries and kitchens, created reading rooms and helped write letters to relatives. Before leaving for her homeland, the nurse gave a white marble cross to all medical workers who died in the Crimean War.

In England, Florence Nightingale became the army's chief nurse. All medical personnel have received special training. Why is it celebrated on Florence's birthday? Thanks to her, medicine began to take the prevention of diseases more seriously, and if earlier it was in the hands of surgeons, then since then nurses have received new rights and recognition. Florence became the first medical professional to describe the effects of the environment on health, laying the foundations for ecology. Florence has a monument to Florence Nightingale. In addition, this woman is named after the highest award presented annually to nurses around the world for more than a hundred years. The award is presented annually on Nurse Day, 12 May.

Today, many believe that the nurse does not play a very important role, and the qualifications of such staff are being questioned. In fact, this opinion is wrong. There are a huge number of different organizations in the world that are engaged in the research and improvement of nursing. Currently, nurses are trained in many educational institutions, and for good reason, because a nurse is a person to whom patients owe their health and life. At various hospitals around the world, nurses' Day is celebrated with joy and pleasure. it can take a variety of forms, from conferences and meetings to outdoor recreation or travel abroad.

Observing the patient, carrying out medical procedures, showing concern and showing sympathy, listening to complaints, risking their own health every day, caring for someone else's, not always grateful and pleasant person - it's hard work! International Nursing Day is a great occasion to say "Thank you!" for selflessness and sincerity to all people who have chosen such a difficult path in life.

In 1820, on May 12, an extraordinary girl was born. She grew up like any young lady from a noble and wealthy family. An impeccable education, excellent manners, a crystal reputation and, to a large extent, the income of her parents - according to all the canons of that time, Florence Nightingale should have successfully married and be content with the role of wife and mother.

But the brave girl went against the will of the family and society. Accidentally finding herself in a hospital for the poor, Florence was horrified by the abundance of dirt, she was struck by an intolerable stench, a huge number of sickly dying people, abandoned and forgotten by the whole world. Florence lost interest in music and painting, social events, dancing and an idle lifestyle in general. At 19, she told her parents that she was going to become a nurse. A scandal in society, rejection and insults, her father's abuse and her mother's heart attack - no one and nothing could affect her resolve.

In 1974, the date of birth of Florence was declared festive. Although nurses around the world have been receiving congratulations and awards for professionalism since the 1950s. But until 1974, these were scattered events organized at the local level.

Florence Nightingale made a huge contribution to the formation and development of nursing. The first nursing school was opened under her auspices. She convinced the authorities that banal ventilation, sewerage and simple sanitation standards in the hospital are not a luxury, but an absolute must. Thanks to her organizational skills, leadership qualities and amazing endurance, during the Crimean War, the mortality rate in military hospitals decreased from 41% to 2%!

When nursing day is celebrated, the most honorable awards in the profession take place around the world. Medal to them. Florence Nightingale was founded by the International Red Cross League in 1912. Since 1974, the award has been presented on May 12, in an amount of no more than 50 pieces. in two years!

In addition to the hellish physical efforts, Florence worked mentally, wishing that the sisters of mercy in all corners of the planet would change their views on their chosen profession. In those years, the sister performed only the most simple care measures - feeding, washing, changing bandages. It was considered normal that nurses had no idea of \u200b\u200bhuman physiology or anatomy. Florence insisted that the nurse should be a professional and the primary physician's assistant. She has written several books on what should be a nurse's responsibilities and what knowledge every nurse should have. Florence taught girls who then traveled around the world as mentors.

Today, nurses bear about 80% of the effort to heal patients. Florence's scientific works and books are reflected in the modern Nursing Code. Her appeal to young girls who decided to become a sister of mercy is relevant to this day: "If you are afraid of dirt and stench, if you are not able to empathize with a stranger, even an unpleasant one, if you put your own well-being above the good of others, choose a different path."

At the international level, Nurse Day has been celebrated in Russia only since 1993. The main events are held on May 12, and during the festive week there are conferences, seminars and round tables. The main educational events corresponding to the chosen theme of the year are timed to this date. In 2010, seminars and other events were held under the motto “Prevention and control of the spread of chronic diseases”, in 2011 “Accessible medical care for all segments of the population”, in 2012 “From scientific evidence to evidence-based practice - bridging the gap”. In 2013, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the holiday in Russia, the events were held under the unofficial slogan "I am proud of my profession!"

Informal congratulations

On Nurse Day, congratulations are heard all over the world, from TV screens and newspaper pages, doctors thank their irreplaceable assistants, the bosses issue bonuses, corporate evenings are held locally. But the warmest and most welcome congratulations come from the lips of patients: knowing that your work has been appreciated is the most important result of the past year. Do not forget to congratulate your fellow nurses and nurses on their professional holiday, even if you have never had to act as a patient. How exactly?

1. Throw a party. Ask guests to memorize or write congratulatory poems on postcards to read during the party instead of toast. Guests who are not related to medicine can come in patient costumes: bathrobes and slippers, playful bandages. Prepare some funny contests:

  • bandage the "wounded" at speed, using toilet paper instead of bandages;
  • compose a funny quatrain "Ode to an enema", "Song of the cannula", "The tale of the naughty patient", etc .;
  • play Pantomime. One person with gestures depicts an object (a syringe, a ship or a "duck", a clamp and other medical instruments), and the rest of the guests guess;
  • compete in teams, guessing the continuation of proverbs and sayings about health. "Sick - get well, but healthy ...", "Believe not illness, but ...", "Where health, there and ..." (beware, doctor, beauty).

Don't forget to include incendiary dances and active contests in your script. For example, you can dance with a stack of gauze bandages or a tray with a heap of cotton swabs on your outstretched hands (if you drop it, you lose, you can count the tampons at the end - whoever has the most left on the tray wins). You can arrange a speed competition by wearing ducks on your feet. Or a competition for marksmanship - syringes and a foam target in the shape you know what. Have fun! Indeed, when professional holidays are celebrated at work, most of the time is spent on official congratulations from colleagues and bosses. And when to rest?

2. Don't have time to party? Prepare an unusual greeting. You can come to the hospital as a visitor, walk through the wards and ask patients to write their wishes on a large poster. Or write a poem and order an engraving or inscription on a medical souvenir (remember the associations with the department in which a familiar nurse works).

Congratulations on the day of a nurse can be arranged as a video message, a humorous video or collage, a flash mob or a small performance (a scene with the participation of friends or children of friends, if a friend works in the children's department). Only by the fact that a young man or girl has chosen such a difficult and not always grateful profession, they have already earned respect and admiration! Especially when it comes to Russia and the countries of the former USSR, where medicine can only be a vocation, but not a choice for the sake of trivial money.

Nursing is one of the most humane professions in the world. This is a separate independent direction of medicine with its own rules, laws, principles.

It is not enough for a nurse to have only medical knowledge - her main task is to empathize, help, comfort and be close in difficult moments. A nurse in difficult moments becomes the closest person with whom they share their pain, tell life stories and seek advice. She is a doctor, a psychologist, a friend, and a sister - all this is gathered in one person who has tremendous patience, endurance and willpower.

This is a very responsible profession, because the rapid recovery and effective rehabilitation of patients must take place under the constant supervision of a specialist, the result directly depends on this.

Surgeons and other doctors place their patients in the safe hands of nurses who, in the postoperative period, take on all the nuances of patient care and recovery.

There are several types of medical workers in this class:

  • The main nurse is a person with a higher education in the medical field. Most of the time, the head nurse deals with organizational and administrative issues, leads the team of junior specialists. Also, she is responsible for the professionalism and qualifications of employees who report to her.
  • The head nurse is the right hand of the head nurse, her deputy and assistant. Assists in administrative matters, supervises junior medical personnel.
  • Ward Nurse - Responsible for patients from the wards assigned to her. Her duties include monitoring the condition of patients, monitoring their well-being, organizing food and proper care.
  • A procedural nurse - assists the doctor in carrying out simple procedures, or performs them independently under the supervision of a doctor. He takes blood for tests.
  • Operating room nurse - prepares instruments and room for the operation, assists the surgeon in performing surgery. Such a position requires high qualifications and training, as well as moral fortitude and endurance.
  • The local nurse is responsible for the patients who are assigned to a specific area. Conducts examinations and procedures at home.
  • Diet nurse - monitors the patients' diet.

International Nurse Day

Nurse Day has the status of an international holiday, which is celebrated by citizens not only of Ukraine and the countries of the post-Soviet space, but also far abroad.

International Nursing Day is officially celebrated on May 12 with the support of the International Council of Nursing.

For the first time this day became significant in 1965. It was then that it was decided to declare May 12 as Nurse's Day, but the idea of \u200b\u200bmaking it such was raised long before that - in 1953.

Why is Nurse Day celebrated on May 12?

This date was not chosen by chance, because it is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who was one of the founders of the Sisters of Mercy service during the Crimean War. Thanks to their backbreaking work and dedication, many soldiers survived and escaped death from injuries of all severity. The sisters of mercy consisted of girls of various nationalities, including Russian nuns. They looked after, as historical references say, the soldiers of the allied forces: France, Great Britain, Sardinia and the Ottoman Empire.

Also, with their help, not only people were saved, but also new technologies were introduced for the disinfection of premises and tools, which significantly reduced the risks of infection with infectious diseases.

At that time, it was believed that it was the nurses who should take the wounded from the battlefield, provide emergency care and assist surgeons during operations. Although they were usually fragile little girls, they managed to take many warriors, carrying them on themselves or even in their arms.

In 1974, it was decided to unite all nurses in 141 countries into a single organization - the International Council of Nurses. Regularly on International Nursing Day, the Red Cross distributes the most prestigious award - the Florence Nightingale Medal. This award is received by only 50 people every 2 years, and it is considered the highest award anyone can receive, both registered nurses and volunteers.

For your information, during the existence of the USSR, 44 nurses were awarded medals, and in Independent Ukraine, 17 Ukrainian women received the Florence Nightingale award.

Nurse Day in Ukraine

In Ukraine, Nurse Day is also celebrated on May 12. For the first time in Independent Ukraine, the appearance of this holiday dates back to 1997 - it was then that the Association of Nurses of Ukraine was created, which united all Ukrainian nurses, nurses and nurses.

She is a member of the International Council of Nursing, which already includes more than 150 social and economic organizations.

The Association of Nurses of Ukraine was created in order to defend interesting junior medical workers: social, professional, creative, economic. The Association conducts educational conferences, seminars and training sessions for nurses to improve their knowledge and skills, meet with colleagues and share experiences.

Despite this, there is a catastrophic shortage of nurses in Ukraine. All because of low wages and poor working conditions.

Celebration traditions

Since the holiday is widely held all over the world, the International Council of Nurses is very responsible in its organization. The topic is chosen in advance, materials are prepared, a slogan is composed.

For example, Nurses for Patient Safety Against Counterfeit Medicines, Adequate Staffing is a Prerequisite for Patient Safety, Delivering Quality in the Community: Nurses at the Forefront of Innovation, Bridging the Gap: Increasing Accessibility and Equity, Bridging the Gap: From Scientific Evidence to Evidence-Based Nursing Practice, Nurses: Drivers of Change - A Vital Resource for Health Support, and others.

The festive day begins with congratulations to all women and men who are associated with this responsible profession: nurses and nurses, nurses, nannies, as well as teachers and graduates of medical universities.

All colleagues and patients bring them flowers, sweets, cute souvenirs and small themed gifts.

Gift ideas:

  • Themed cake

A cake on which a drawing on a medical theme will be made with icing is an excellent gift. Now it is not necessary to invent or seek out a recipe - many private pastry shops have been created that will make and bake a real work of art for a moderate fee.

  • Medical gown

Such a gift is suitable for a very close person, since this item of work clothes must match in size, convenience and comfort. If you are absolutely sure of your purchase, you can add original embroidery, for example, with the owner's initials.

  • Comfortable shoes
Again, comfortable lightweight shoes are a great gift for a nurse, as her job involves constant movement. Rubber flip-flops or sandals that are non-slip and fit snugly around your foot are fine.
  • Cup

Time for a short tea is a favorite part of the nursing shift, because it is then that you can calmly communicate with colleagues and take a break from work worries. As a gift, we advise you to choose a spacious mug with a pattern or ornament of your choice. It can be a medical-themed souvenir cup, or just a cute product.

Recently, cups made on a potter's wheel and covered with glaze by folk masters have become very popular. Their prices vary, so you can find a very budget and beautiful option.

A nurse is, first of all, a girl who adores female things: jewelry, perfume, candy, flowers. As a gift, you can choose either a popular modern scent or take into account the wishes of the hero of the occasion.

  • Book or notebook

Such a gift will be a joy to absolutely everyone, because while reading a book you can escape from worries, and write down your thoughts, beautiful quotes and plans for the future in a notebook.

  • Care products

Various hand creams can be gifted to nurses to keep them always soft and silky. A cooling effect foot mask can be gifted to help regain strength after a full day on your feet.

  • Sleep bandage

Nurses are sometimes forced to work several shifts in a row, therefore, in short periods of time, they can take a nap anywhere and in any position. So that the bright light of the lamps in the hospital corridors does not interfere with sleep, give them a sleep mask that will protect your eyes from any light.

World Nursing Day - a celebration in other countries

Since Nurse Day is international, it is celebrated in many countries around the world. But not in all it falls precisely on May 12.

Celebration begins in early May. For example, in the United Kingdom and the United States, the celebration date is timed to coincide with the period of professional medical conferences, which take place from May 6th.

International Operating Nurse Day

Operating nurses are the highest level of qualifications of such specialists, because they are directly involved in the operation. The health and even the life of the patient depends on them, as well as on the surgeon.
